The celebration of Wesleyan’s diverse multilingual communities, an annual tradition in the university, is just a week away. Join us in exploring various languages, cultures, and traditions, and enjoying conversations with like-minded people for Power of Language Week! It doesn’t matter if you know foreign languages or just thinking about learning one – everyone is welcome to organize and participate!
Starting next week, February 13th until February 22nd, every day will become an opportunity to engage in game nights, movie screenings, fun lectures or talks from peers, and music listening parties, all facilitated by the Fries Center for Global Studies and campus partners.
Event highlights:
- Thursday, February 13th, will kick off with FLTA Carnival, where you can play games and try snacks from all over the world.
- On February 14th, join the Samba Fest to learn more about Black history, Brazilian culture, and Portuguese language, or stop by the Chinese Mahjong Club to learn the rules and master this game.
- Mark February 15th to come to a Bad Bunny New Album Listening Party, watch a short film, and try delicious Puerto Rican food! And learn how to pronounce Vietnamese names and dishes with the Vietnamese Student Association while enjoying Vietnamese snacks.
- Come to a book discussion about Indigenous Languages and Spanish Colonialism with the author, Wesleyan History and Latin American Studies Professor Valeria López Fadul, on February 18th.
Throughout the whole week, you have the opportunity to engage in ASL Karaoke and Poetry night, check out movies in foreign languages from the Film Series, and on February 22nd finish up this great and productive week by singing favorite multilingual songs and drinking coffee from Espwesso.
