Fulbright International Education Administrators Recipient, Anita Deeg-Carlin

By Anita Deeg-Carlin, Director of Intercultural Learning

I’m honored to share that I’ve been selected for an IEA Fulbright Award to Japan! This June, I’ll travel to Tokyo, Hiroshima, and possibly Kyoto to deepen my understanding of Japan’s higher education system, society and culture while building relationships that will further Wesleyan University’s engagement in the region. I’m going to explore intercultural learning from a Japanese perspective, also known as “Asiacentricity,” which I’m very excited about. I’ll also meet with Asako Yamauchi ’10 who has agreed to visit with me!

Many thanks to my colleagues, Elizabeth McCormick, Steve Angle, Masami Imai, Roger Mathew Grant, Nicole Stanton, Emily Gorlewski, Ed.D., Scott Aalgaard, and Naho Maruta for their encouragement and support throughout this process. I’m especially excited for the opportunity to expand my geographic and cultural experience to Asia for the first time.
