Call for applications: Truman Scholarship for public service!

Juniors, if you a US citizen or national are committed to seeking a career in public service and planning to attend grad school, now is the time to consider applying for the Truman Scholarship! The Truman Foundation seeks to identify aspiring leaders at an important inflection point in their development – when they are college juniors – and recognize and reward their commitments to careers in public service, broadly defined. The scholarship provides leadership development programming, a multigenerational network, and $35,000 toward graduate school.

From the Truman Scholarship website: “Today, Trumans work in the West Wing, sit on the US Supreme Court, and serve in federal and state legislatures. They are transforming nonprofits, delivering crucial services, and organizing for change in local communities.  And Truman Scholars are leaders in academia, research, and health care. They can be found in every branch of the Armed Services.  And many make a difference far beyond the borders of the United States.”

If you aspire to a public service career, have a track record of leadership on or off campus, watch the recording of the recent Truman Scholarship Open House, and write to fellowships@wesleyan.edu with your interest in applying. Wesleyan’s Truman campus deadline is coming up on November 14, and all candidates should meet with Associate Director for Fellowships, Erica Kowsz, prior to requesting letters of recommendation due on that date.
