Celebrate International Education Week 2025 at Wesleyan

by Zaynah Almasri

Mark your calendars! International Education Week (IEW) will take place November 17–21, 2025. This nationwide celebration spotlights the importance of international learning and exchange. At Wesleyan, it’s a chance to explore the many ways our campus is connected to the wider world.

Why IEW Matters at Wes

Each year, IEW highlights Wesleyan’s global community and commitment to learning across borders. The week is designed to:

  • Showcase opportunities for students to study, learn, and engage internationally.
  • Honor the cultural and linguistic traditions that shape our shared environment.
  • Build bridges across differences through meaningful dialogue.
  • Spark conversations about global challenges like forced migration, climate change, and language barriers.

Highlights from Last Year

In 2024, the week featured everything from an Afropop Worldwide showcase and a Vietnamese street food night to a cricket match, Chinese calligraphy workshop, a Greek film and pastry evening, and a lecture in Spanish about pirañas.

Ideas for 2025

Suggestions for more themes and activities include:

  • Panels where international students, faculty, and staff share their experiences.
  • Creative workshops in music, film, dance, or poetry from different cultures.
  • Safe spaces for international students with intersecting marginalized identities.
  • Student-led language and pronunciation workshops.
  • Discussions on sports, intercultural friendships, or global communication.
  • And of course—plenty of food-centered events!
