Looking to keep up your language skills over the summer in a fun, low-pressure way?
Registration is now open for Summer Language Buddies, a program coordinated by the Fries
Center for Global Studies that connects Wesleyan students, faculty, and staff for informal
language practice during academic breaks.
Originally launched as Winter Language Buddies in 2020, the program has become a staple
each winter and summer, providing a flexible and welcoming space for the Wesleyan community
to build language confidence, connect with new people, and explore different cultures.
Participants are matched based on their language preferences, level, and meeting style. One of
the best parts? You and your buddy can shape the experience to suit your needs and
schedules. Whether you prefer texting occasionally in your target language, setting up regular
video chats, or diving into themed discussions once in a while, the format is completely up to
you.
Practicing a language doesn’t have to mean tests or textbooks—sometimes it’s as simple as
sharing a weekly voice note, swapping memes, or catching up in another language.
Ready to join? Fill out this sign up form or scan the QR code below and just select your
preferred language(s), your current proficiency, how many buddies you’d like, how often you’d
like to connect, and whether you’d like a partner with a similar or different level. You’ll receive a
follow-up with your matches to get started.
Sign ups close on May 16th. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Thais
García Bagué at tgarcia@wesleyan.edu !
