Mooncakes, Karaoke, and Belonging: The Chinese Cultural Club’s Mid-Autumn Festival

by Beatrice Oey, Chair of CCC

Last Friday, on September 29th, our community came together to celebrate the enchanting Mid-Autumn Festival, and what a wonderful evening it was! The event was a heartwarming blend of cultural traditions, delicious mooncakes, lively karaoke, and entertaining skits that left everyone with cherished memories. The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time of reflection and togetherness, symbolizing the beauty of unity under the radiant full moon.

For our international Chinese students, this celebration meant more than just embracing their cultural heritage; it was a profound experience of belonging and connection in a foreign land. It was a time when they felt the warmth of home, thousands of miles away. But it wasn’t just our Chinese friends who felt the magic of this festival. For all of us, it was a reminder of the importance of fostering a diverse and inclusive community. It was a night that transcended borders and brought us all closer, reaffirming the idea that, in our community, everyone belongs.

As we savored mooncakes, sang our hearts out in karaoke, and laughed along with the skits, we were reminded of the beauty of cultural exchange and the joy of coming together as one big family. The Mid-Autumn Festival celebration was more than just an event; it was a testament to the power of unity, love, and belonging. We look forward to many more such celebrations that strengthen the bonds within our diverse community.
