Pachaysana Unlearning Series Kicks Off September 21

Our partners in Ecuador, Fundación Pachaysana, who brought us virtual study abroad courses in the spring of 2021, are back on a Zoom near you this year! They will be presenting a series of workshops and webinars known as the Unlearning Series. The series is cosponsored by the College of Letters, Fries Center for Global Studies, Resource Center, Office for Equity and Inclusion, and the Office for Faculty Career Development.

“In the fall semester, we will begin with ‘Decolonizing Knowledge and Epistemic Justice’, a workshop that merges theory with praxis and critical thinking with creative methodologies, said Chelsea Viteri, Resident Director of the program in Ecuador and one of the series’ presenters. “In the spring, we will dive into our next workshop, ‘Restorying our World,’ where participants rethink their relationship with story and explore the liberatory potential of storytelling and restorying.”

The series begins with a webinar on Visibilizing Epistemic Justice on September 21. Participants do not need to attend all sessions; each one stands on its own. Future topics include Radical Listening, Knowing, and Being, to be held on Indigenous People’s Day, October 11, and Embodying Epistemic Justice on November 9. The series will continue into the spring semester as well.
