On May 3, 2021, from 5pm to 6pm Fellowships will be hosting a forum to discuss overcoming imposter syndrome regarding applications for fellowships, graduate school, jobs, internships, etc.

Applying for anything can be very nerve-wracking, and these feelings can become harmful and make it difficult to progress. Imposter syndrome is when an individual doubts their own abilities, skills, and/or accomplishments and instead feels like they are lying or scamming others. This is a feeling that many people have that can be extremely debilitating. Instead of adding to this stress by thinking about competition, we want to encourage community and systems of support.

In this forum, we will begin by identifying the different ways that imposter syndrome looks like so that when these feelings arise, we can more actively be aware of this self-sabotaging behavior. Another topic of conversation will be ways to build and nurture a community of peers to help encourage one another during this work-intensive process. Connecting with peers who are all working on applications can be supportive and motivating. Finally, to close off the event, we will work on establishing organizational systems, such as timelines, study dates, sticky notes, or voice memos, to help ensure that your applications are sent in on time.

Learn about reinforcing yourself and your strengths so that applications aren’t so daunting.
