The Office of Study Abroad is excited to announce two new leadership opportunities for study abroad returnees to continue their global learning, support their peers, and make a lasting impact on the Wesleyan community.
Study Abroad student leaders will work closely with the Office of Study Abroad to support Wesleyan students as they navigate each phase of their study abroad experience. Both roles, Study Abroad Ambassador and Study Abroad Peer Mentor, will promote international experiences and intercultural learning opportunities, offer guidance to applicants and outgoing students, and support students once they return to campus.
The Study Abroad Peer Mentor position is a volunteer opportunity available to any student who has studied abroad during their time at Wesleyan. Peer Mentors will appear on the Office of Study Abroad website as a point of contact for students with questions or concerns about study abroad, from pre-departure to re-entry. Peer Mentors are also encouraged to share their perspectives and advice with their peers at events hosted by the Office of Study Abroad or the Fries Center for Global Studies.
The Study Abroad Ambassador role is a paid position with weekly work hours and added responsibilities including organizing and facilitating events, creating online resources, and advising students. Each Study Abroad Ambassador will also chair or co-chair a working group of their own design and interest.
“We are excited to be starting the Ambassador Program,” says Emily Gorlewski, Director of Study Abroad. “We look forward to the new ideas, student-led initiatives, and energy that the Ambassadors will bring. It will allow peer-to-peer advising on a larger scale than we have been able to offer before.”
Fall 2020 applications for both positions are due by August 31, 2020. Interested students can learn more about the roles and apply through the Office of Study Abroad website.
If you studied abroad during your time at Wesleyan, we hope that you will consider joining the study abroad student leadership team as a Peer Mentor or Ambassador!
