International Students Tax Information Sessions

For International Students: Even if you did not receive income, but were physically present in the US anytime in 2019, you must submit Form 8843 to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by June 30, 2020.

To help you fulfill your IRS obligations, Wesleyan provides you with FREE access to the easy-to-use Sprintax Tax Preparation online software.  Sprintax will determine your residency, guide you through the preparation process, arrange the necessary documents to mail to the IRS and check if you have a liability or are due a refund.  The Sprintax Access code will be distributed in early March.

All new students and employees, individuals who are new to US tax filing, or those who have unusual circumstances, are strongly encouraged to attend one of Wesleyan’s FREE information sessions to help you understand your tax filing obligations and demonstrate Sprintax.  Please see the attached flyer for more information about the sessions.

For US Citizens and Permanent Residents: Representatives of the Middlesex VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Coalition will be on campus to offer tax filing workshops for US Citizens and Permanent Residents on Wednesday, February 26th in Allbritton 204 and on Tuesday, March 31st  in PAC 100 from 5:30pm until 8:30pm.  You’ll be able to file your taxes then and there using myfreetaxes, as well as ask any questions you may have.  Please bring your tax papers with you.

The Wesleyan Finance Office will be offering seminars to discuss the tax responsibilities of international students and assist with filing the correct forms.  Sessions will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd, 3:00-4:45 pm in Usdan 110, on Wednesday, March 4th, 5:15-7:00 pm in Usdan 108, and on Wednesday, March 25th, 3:00-4:45 pm in Usdan 108 and are open to all.   Additionally, there will be a session specifically for graduate students and Wesleyan employees on Tuesday, March 10th, 3:00 – 4:30 pm in Usdan 110.  Please note that all international visitors are required to file a US tax form by June 30th, 2020 even if no income has been earned in the US.
