Meet and Greet: Kiarah Young ’23

My name is Kiarah Young. I’m from Sacramento, California. I am double majoring in Government: American Politics and African American Studies. I am the LRT Digital Specialist. I work alongside Emmanuel Paris-Bouvret to digitize movies for professors. I also assist in recording lectures and editing them into full videos. I had prior experience with media before Wesleyan but, before working with Emmanuel I did not know about digitizing videos. In 2017, I founded Source Media Agency in Sacramento, CA. It is a youth-led media agency under the Sacramento City Unified School District that does digital content for campaigns focused on social justice and education. This media agency helped my growth as a person, taught me so many new skills, and brought me many new opportunities. I wanted to ensure I continued to do media work throughout college.

MWLA trip to Peru – June 2019: Built a health center for Union de la Selva

Outside of my work as a digital specialist, I recently joined the Women’s Golf team here at Wesleyan. I will begin playing in Spring Season. I am still finding my clubs of interest here at Wesleyan but, I try to remain involved in everything I participated in at home. I have a strong passion for social justice and media. I continue to be a mentor and leader for Source. I am also an Alumni of Men and Women’s Leadership Academy Sacramento (MWLA). MWLA had an incredible impact on my life so, I continue to work with them to ensure it has an impact on the younger members. I also have a personal media agency that I plan to relaunch very soon!

I’m excited for my journey at Wesleyan. In California, I was involved in various groups that had an impact on me and allowed me to have an impact on others. I hope to continue that very soon here at Wesleyan!
