Study Abroad Fair (Fall 2019)

On September 5th, the WesWOW tent hosted the Wesleyan’s annual Study Abroad Fair. The event, coordinated by the Office of Study Abroad, provided an opportunity for prospective students to connect with over 25 organizational and institutional representatives, speak to returned students, and explore a myriad of different programs. With hundreds of programs represented partner providers and staff from the Office of Study Abroad were happy to help students navigate the expo.

“The variety of courses, locations, and program types represented at the fair really opens students’ eyes to the many options they have available to them,” said Hannah Parten, a Wesleyan Study Abroad Advisor, “Our hope is that all Wesleyan students, regardless of major, recognize that they can study abroad”.

Wesleyan University considers study abroad opportunities to be an essential aspect of liberal art education for all students of any major. This committed was echoed in the students engaging questions and conversations with providers, as well as the fair’s choice of venue. This was the first year the event was hosted in the WesWOW tent outside of Usdan, the main hub of campus activity.

“Studying abroad is very much a part of the academic student culture here at Wesleyan,” explains Emily Gorlewski, the Associate Director of Study Abroad and the event’s organizer, “We wanted the Study Abroad Fair to be highly visible and inviting to all students of any aspiration, and the WesWOW tent provided a perfect opportunity. It was great to see so many engaged students”.

Representatives from the Department of Fellowships, the Office of Financial Aid, and the Class Deans were also in attendance. They along with the students and partner providers helped make this event a success.

Students who missed the event or are interested in learning more about studying abroad are encouraged to visit Wesleyan’s Office of Study Abroad website and Facebook page, as well as visit the office during open advising hours, 10:00 am to 12:00pm MWF and 2:00pm to 4:00 pm TTh. The Office of Study Abroad is located in the Fries Center for Global Studies in 201 Fisk Hall.
